SYNOPSIS
SUSPECT is a gripping, character-driven thriller that unfolds across a city layered with secrets. With a mix of procedural drama and psychological tension, the series required subtle yet impactful visual effects, from integrating digital doubles in sweeping drone shots to enhancing moments of forensic detail and media storytelling. Our VFX work supported key narrative beats while preserving the show’s grounded and cinematic tone.
HOW WE ACHIEVED IT
3D Characters on Bridge – Drone Footage Integration:
We created and animated 3D characters to appear walking across one of London’s iconic bridges in three distinct drone shots, each from a unique aerial angle. These digital doubles were fully match-lit and tracked into the drone plates, complete with accurate scale, shadow casting, and environmental interaction. Motion capture and animation blending ensured that movement felt natural and human, especially from long-range perspectives.
Skyline Paint-Outs – Period Clean-Up:
To maintain time-period accuracy, our team performed detailed paint-outs of modern skyline elements across multiple shots. From antennas and glass high-rises to signage and infrastructure, we removed non-anachronistic features and restored era-appropriate skylines using matte painting and projection techniques, preserving the integrity of the show’s visual setting.
Bullet Hit Enhancement:
A key action beat involved a bullet impact moment, for which we added a practical-feeling bullet hit with debris, impact flare, and subtle blood mist. By layering physical interaction and environmental response, we gave the moment cinematic punch while ensuring realism.
Explosive Substance – Fizzy Goo FX:
In one of the show’s more unusual forensic elements, we created a bubbling, fizzing explosive substance. Using particle simulations, fluid dynamics, and layered texturing, we brought this gooey material to life with active surface motion, micro-bubbling, and reactive light shimmer, adding both tension and a slightly uncanny tone to the scene.
