SYNOPSIS

I Fought the Law blends gritty realism with sharp storytelling in a modern legal drama rooted in truth and tension. Set across urban and industrial landscapes, the series demanded seamless visual effects that could enhance environments, support character continuity, and maintain visual authenticity - without ever drawing attention to the work. Our VFX contributions focused on clean-up, architectural period augmentation to preserve the grounded, documentary-like feel of the show.

HOW WE ACHIEVED IT

TV Screen Comps:
We composited a range of in-universe TV broadcasts and video content onto on-set screens, including news segments, security footage, and courtroom recordings. All content was tracked frame-by-frame and integrated with realistic reflections, screen glare, and device-specific colour correction for full believability in-camera.

Sky Replacements – Summer Continuity:
To ensure season consistency and support the show's summery visual tone, we replaced overcast or neutral skies with warm, sunlit skies across multiple exterior shots. Using matte-painted and animated cloud plates, we added depth, soft shadows, and light wrap to maintain lighting continuity and match the tone of surrounding footage.

Paint Outs – Set and Background Cleanup:
Our paint-out work ranged from removing crew gear and unwanted signage to erasing contemporary or distracting elements in the background. All cleanup was handled with precision to maintain a clean frame while respecting the realism of handheld or moving shots.

Prosthetic Clean-Ups & Arm Tattoo Removal:
We performed detailed cleanup on prosthetic makeup to blend seams. Additionally, we digitally removed tattoos from a character’s arms in several scenes, using tracked paint and skin texture restoration to ensure consistency across varying lighting and movement.

Cooling Tower Plate Drop-Ins:
To reinforce the industrial backdrop of the story, we extended the set inserting large cooling towers into several wide shots. Using high-resolution plate photography and digital integration techniques, we matched camera movement, lighting, and atmospheric depth to situate the towers naturally into the existing environment, enhancing the visual geography without needing full CG builds.
